Why Group Lessons?
In general, Group lessons are better for students and parents, and not just because they are over 42% cheaper than one-to-one lessons!
Some parents believe their child will receive less attention during group lessons. However, it should be noted that music lessons are not like a loaf of bread, where if you have 5 students in the class, the class gets split into 5, so a student will only get 20% of the teacher’s attention. This simply doesn’t happen in reality. Group lessons are more like a movie ticket, where everyone is going to get the same experience and therefore everyone pays the same amount!
Advantages to Our Group Lessons!
In group classes students also have the opportunity to learn from one another, especially with question-and-answer sessions between teachers and students. Often, students ask fantastic questions that other students may not have asked or even thought about, so the potential learning is much greater than learning alone. This learning method helps students express their opinions, listen to others, and provide feedback.
Group classes allow students to perform and learn together as a group and they can make new friends! It can also feel harder for some students to learn on their own as they can’t see how they’re progressing in comparison to other students. Having a supportive environment can really help instil enthusiasm and encouragement from other students! In short, group classes offer a livelier environment for more enjoyable learning.
One-to-one lessons can limit communication with other learners and social cohesiveness. When kids don’t develop proper communication skills, it can become a massive problem in adulthood. Some children will learn better by interacting with others than by learning independently, and one-to-one learning can limit a child’s ability to learn teamwork.
Free One-to-One Sessions Available!
Lastly, at Top Score Music Academy, we already include FREE one-to-one sessions in our Saturday ‘Drop-in’ classes (valued at £660) for any student wishing to have a one-to-one talk if they need some additional help or have questions about anything that was covered that week in group class. This means that there is no risk of any student falling behind and students have more opportunities to learn at their own pace. Although these drop-in classes are not compulsory, and students can book a 30min session or just drop in for a quick 10min chat, they still prove to be immensely valuable to students, especially coming up to examinations. And of course, many of the topics we cover in class are also discussed in our YouTube videos too!
